WALB is reporting that the recent outbreak of E.Coli in Moultrie did indeed originate at the Barbeque Pit:
The Barbeque Pit Steak and Seafood Restaurant voluntarily closed last Thursday at the request of the health department. Health officials called in the USDA who met Tuesday morning with the restaurant’s owners and Public Health officials.

This was the 1930’s. South Georgia. Small town. If Moultrie wasn’t the buckle on the Bible Belt, it was at the very least the hole in which the buckle fastened. Like almost everyone else, Mama Lucy’s family were strict Southern Baptists–no drinking, no card playing, and most certainly no tobacco!

The Valdosta Times is reporting that The Moultrie-Colquitt County Development Authority is trying to revive a $240 million project that would create a 4 lane road from Albany to Valdosta.
On Wednesday, Department of Transportation board member Johnny Floyd told authority members that projects could be on hold for some time. It could take the department eight to 10 months to work through a process of identifying revenue streams and prioritizing projects.

Just moments before a masked man killed a Moultrie convenience store clerk he was captured on video tape. While the killer has not been captured bu authorities, the tape is the best lead they have at this point.
It’s good for the police to have a good video tape or a DVR that they can go back to in order to identify the people.” said Mike White, service manager with Central Monitoring in Albany.

Moultrie is the county seat of Colquitt County. Moultrie is an agricultural community set in the Southern Rivers part of the State of Georgia. It is well known for its antique shops and has been styled “The Antique Capitol of South Georgia.” In outlying areas of the county, there are vast farmlands and rolling area of both cotton and tobacco crops. Moultrie is also the home of US Senator Saxby Chambliss.
Colquitt County became the 115th county in Georgia by an act of the Legislature on February 25, 1856. It was named after Walter Terry Colquittt, a minister, statesman and lawyer who was a military leader in the mid 1860’s. In 1879, a charter was adopted and 50 acres (0 km²) in the center of the county was declared the county seat. It was named Moultrie, after Gen. William Moultrie, a Revolutionary War hero.
